Thank you, Janelle!

My dear friend, Janelle, has tagged me for what she calls a social revelation. Basically, it works like this:

Link back to the person who tagged you
Mention the rules on your blog.
Tell about 6 unspectacular quirks of yours.
Tag 6 following bloggers by linking to them.
Leave a comment on each of the tagged bloggers blogs letting them know they've been tagged.

It's funny...when I was initially deciding whether blogging would be a good idea for me, Angie sent me a similar missive. I didn't have a blog at that time, but I did the exercise and kept it for myself. My plan was to revisit what I'd written before. Unfortunately, thanks to a cross-country move and other issues, I couldn't find it. Now I'll be forced to do it again. Oh well. Here goes...

1. I love obituaries. I know it sounds a little morbid, but the writer in me is fascinated by the possibility of summing up an entire life in three to five paragraphs. What do you scrap? What do you keep? What's important enough to make the final cut of your life?

2. In my world, popcorn is the food of the gods. I think it should be its own food group. It's the only food that tastes good alone AND with everything else.

3. I'm deathly afraid of ants. Don't get me wrong -- I'm not a fan of any kind of critter, but ants will absolutely send me packing. When I was a small child in Texas, I accidentally sat in a bed of red ants. While I don't remember the incident, my skin literally crawls when I see more than two or three ants together.

4. Being on time is absolutely not my forte. Even though I'm trying to break free from this situation, it's like this -- when my mother was pregnant with me, she was due to deliver on November 16th. My birthday is November 29th. You do the math.

5. I don't go anywhere I'm not expressly invited. For example, I've had friends tell me about an event they're planning. If they don't say, "Why don't you come through," or something similar, I won't go. While some may perceive that as arrogant, I look at it more as not wanting to be somewhere I'm not wanted.

6. Although I'll never admit this in mixed company, I actually like teaching. For those of you who don't already know this, I'm the Radio Coordinator at an inner-city Boys & Girls club in Los Angeles. That's just a fancy title to say that I teach radio to children ages ten and up. I took the job because I needed the money, and I didn't plan to be there very long. After a year, I realize not only do I like the gig, I also get a kick out of making a difference. I just wish it paid better.

Okay...there you have it, folks. I've revealed as much as I could today. Now it's time for Danna, NY Tiffany, CA Tiffany, and Angie to follow suit. And since Janelle admitted that counting is for suckas -- and I don't have anymore blogging friends -- I'll quit right now. Have fun, ladies...

You are so welcome, MD!!!

Did I tell you there's a garrett popcorn down the street from my job. I tried it. I like it. But I'm not going over the deep end with you on the whole it needs to be a food group. LOL

I was due February 23rd and arrived March 3rd (in a leap year so add an extra day...LOL) so I am with you on being time challenged. LOL

I knew you would love teaching. Have you thought about seeing what the state requires for teaching certifications??? You would be an excellent music teacher.

Girl, I discovered Garretts in Chicago. That place is the Cadillac of popcorn, and they opened the one on 34th Street a month before I left. Imagine the pain...LOL

Biology didn't deal us a fair hand in the area of timeliness. I guess we divas are allowed one flaw.

I actually started off as a music ed major in school until I realized that a) music theory was kicking my ass in a major way, and b) the thought of me being trapped up in a room with too many children is frightening. That being said, I'm considering looking into the substitute thing.

Girl, I am so excited to do this. I'll work on it over the weekend.

I'd just asked DJDANNAK how to add your blogs to my page. Pretty cool. I like, I like.

A New Possibility?

If you've been reading EFTDOAD for any length of time, you've probably noticed that I haven't really talked about a man. By that, I mean a man of my own. What's really sad is that there hasn't been a man in my life for the entire time I've been writing this blog. I hate that. However, things may be looking up for me. One of my good friends hosts a forum in Los Angeles called " Battle of the Sexes ." This monthly event consists of guys and girls submitting questions anonymously to the moderators, with the answers being discussed in an open forum. It can get quite rowdy, and the discussions are always enlightening. For most of us, it's the first time we've really heard what members of the opposite sex think. I've been attending these Battles for a few months now. Even though I'm not a fan of mindless rhetoric, it's cool to be around some single people who can think and put together coherent sentences. The last couple of times I'v
There's always that one. The one person you'd change your entire life for if they asked you to. Whether it's the first man you ever loved, the first guy who saw you naked, or the first man to bring you flowers, if he said, "Marry me, and travel with me around the world," you'd quit your job and hop on the first thing smoking. Alas, I haven't met him yet. Actually...that's not true. I have met him. But he doesn't want me. So rather than admit that the one guy I'd leave it all for wouldn't be caught dead with me, I say we don't know each other. I read an article this week that I found to be very informative. It was talking about how men will use any woman who allows herself to be used. And while I know beyond the shadow of a doubt that I don't want that kind of life, I recognized myself in all those women. I've been there. And there are times (like today) when it would be nice to have someone around...even if they're

Long-Distance Sucks

I hate long-distance relationships. Absolutely despise them. So, you ask, why am I currently in one? The short answer is, “I don’t know.” The real answer is, “I don’t know anyone locally that gets me.” Tinderfella is in New York. I am in Texas. Maybe I shouldn’t have let it get this far. Maybe I should’ve nipped it in the bud. But I didn’t. Now I find myself strung out over a man I won’t get to touch until September — IF I’m lucky. With my cycle and every other factor that could exert itself over my situation, I don’t know if we’ll get to see each other then. I don’t like this. I want to kick it with him after work. Maybe hook up and see a movie. Or not. We could cuddle on the couch or discuss the day’s events or just breathe each other’s air. I wanna watch his face light up when he sees me or frown when he gets mad. I want to learn his facial expressions and body language well enough to read joy, peace, anger, and hatred on him. Basically, I want to be with him in a real and meaningfu
